Globe and Mail (Report on Business) “Alfa Romeo is likely to return to North America by 2012 after a 15-year hiatus, the head of Fiat SpA, the company that makes the classic Italian sports car, said Friday.”

If the Chrysler acquisition doesn’t ruin it, I would love to upgrade to a Brera or 159 when they are finally available here!

2011 Porsche Cayenne. Definitely more aggressive styling. And they are now introducing a Hybrid version (a 47hp electric motor nailed to a supercharged V6). Still not sure what I think of it.

When you go for a walk in, say, the woods, you’re using a more subtle “involuntary attention” when looking at things like sunsets or squirrels. When you’re in the city, you’re always avoiding that asshole bicyclist, stepping over that pile of human poo, or spending your brain power ignoring the Rottweiler barking at you in the window. Because your “direct attention” is always focused, your prefrontal cortex is always on overdrive, and you end up not being as good at things that you need “direct attention” for, like learning at school or solving problems you haven’t faced before or resolving conflict. In other words, if you don’t take some time to look at a sunset, your brain never gets a break, and that’s not good.

These days, though, I’m very much a BMW fan. Something happened to Mercedes in the interim, and they now strike me as a bit flashy. What’s with all those shiny highlights on the fascia, for one thing? The styling seems to have become fussy, the wheels have become a bit vulgar, and if I actually knew what it meant I’d say that a Benz has become a bit chavvy.

I like what’s been happening to BMW since I’ve been on Top Gear. That ‘flame surface’ styling that everyone got so worked up about now looks cool and modern, and the inside of a BMW has become tasteful and intelligent.
